For all my Funk friends! I’m getting personal messages and direct emails, asking questions about this video, so I have to add some details here. First of all, this is not a Maysles film. It was shot June 25 1971 during the European leg of GFR appearances (supporting the Survival album) Unfortunately, only a small portion of that show was filmed. NOW ABOUT ALBERT MAYSLES (God rest his soul): Bei...
Grand Funk Railroad -- Texas Pop Festival -- 1969

Grand Funk Railroad’s historic appearance at the Texas International Pop Festival, August 31 1969. The 3-day festival took place on Labor Day Weekend, at the Dallas International Motor Speedway in Lewisville, TX, some 12 miles north of Dallas. Grand Funk played all 3 days for free and made quite a sensation, just like they did at the Atlata International Pop Festival two months earlier. Standin...

1974 and this song was always playing at the pool in the summer on CKLW!! I was 9
Outstanding " From Chicago. God bless "
かっこいいネぇ!!
This sound, yes, this sound. I was only 12 or 13 years old. Rhythm, guitar solo, drums, bass. All of this sounded like something I longed for. nostalgic.
Also if ya dig this song by Grand Funk on youtube you may enjoy Where Roses Grow Live by Rez Band. I remember hearing the song by Led Zepp " In My Time of Dyin " during my drug years and made me think about death and Jesus. Then a hippy friend that dug Jesus told me more of Jesus love and forgiveness and how I could also know Jesus love. So in 1981 I cried out to Jesus and wow man He came into my life and I had and have so much joy and peace and now know that through Jesus when I die I will be with Him in Heaven. Hey Jesus loves each of you also and yall can know Him if you are at all open. Just cry out to Him and also read the Gospel of John in the Bible or check out the movie on RUclips. 😀
After 50 years I still have the same feeling when I hear this song.
My favorite song by them.
You can see and feel the freedom that young musicians felt then , time was spent just playing and playing and creating It truly was an era of creative magic. Modern times often ruin the freedom with all the fake social media and never ending distractions from devices. Including the one i'm on now.
❤❤❤ 3:36 I HAD THE ALBUM AND PLAYED IT SO MANY TIMES. EVERY SONG ON THAT ALBUM IS A ROCKER❤❤❤ 4:06
Es una rolota magica, todos unos grandes maestros Mark Farner, Brewer en la bataca, pero ese estilo, sonido y forma de tocar el bajo de Mel Schacher es grandiosa. 🇲🇽✌️
This Song Is Awesome!! Why Isn't This Site Blown Up With Remarks?? Let's Start NOW!!! M O'B
DENIED THE "ROCK N ROLL HALL OF SHAME" BECAUSE THEY ARE CHRISTIANS! BUT, "JOAN THE LESBIAN JETT" WHO CAN'T EVEN SING OR PLAY A GUITAR GOT IN 2023! TYPICAL, HOLLYWOOD COMMIES! AS MARK FARNER SAID, 'YOU CAN KISS MY ASS!" I DON'T CARE!
IMO Bass is almost ALWAYS too soft.
I was a drummer and believe his volume is fine but i woulda liked to hear more Bass and Guitar.VOLUME
In Mark's words,"We were just another garage band from Flint,Michigan!"
no question I bet I played Grand Funk Railroad. I’m Your Captain (closer to home) Afternoon 1000 times.
no question I bet I played Grand Funk Railroad. I’m your captain (closer to home) Afternoon 1000 times.
I started listening to them when I was 14. I’m 70 now, I think they are great!
65 here.
An amazing performance! Thanks for posting this.
Grand Funk Railroad - The Band That Blew Led Zeppelin Off The Stage!!!!!
Those amps behind them are Michigan-built WEST tube amps --at the same factory Mark the singer worked at part-time just a year before this was filmed, his job being gluing all the speaker cabinets together, and used on their first tour, these may be the same ones he helped put together!
we had the live 1970 .. it loved that album..
Música maravilhosa!!!
Explosive
Mark Don and Mel.
BOM DEMAIS!!!!
Please. Me
Marks nephew Tony same built same voice... this was our song ... I was the little girl... ❤😪💔❤️😘
Baby Mark❤️
Killer SONG ALERT,CRANK it UP!!! M O'B
That bass player pounds
Don Brewer "The Mad Drummer"
No one even close. They are IMHO the greatest power trio if not just the greatest band ever & i have their complete catalog, plus many many many bootleg live albums which are so good
Killer! Rock and Soul at its finest. That voice! Ever heard the Jay Hawks cover?
I always though this was a Mo Town hit
In 1970 I saw them at the Long Beach Arena in Long Beach CA. They were loud and powerful. Oh and they were the opening act for Black Sabbath. I wondered if they would blow Sabbath off the the stage. They didn't. Sabbath were at their finest and couldn't get blown off the stage. This was one of the best concerts I ever attended. Both acts tore it up.
Still have my Gold vinyl of this, and still sounds Amazing, as they were!!!
Opening Song: 4 We're An American Band Written of Don Brewer Performed by Grand Funk Railroad Provided to Universal Music Group of Sony Music Entertainment Licensing
God they were good !
Such amazing !
My Oldest Brother James Arredondo Enjoyed this BAND.
Excellent!
There are few bands that, if they set their egos aside, could please their fans the way GFR could. I still hold out hope that Mel and Don can find a way to do some shows with Mark.
It was when Grand Funk Railroad was a good band for me mark farner are Grand Funk Railroad
Funk yes
I saw Grand Funk Railroad live in concert at Wild Adventures in Lowndes County, Georgia in August 2022. They were high energy through and through, but it was just Don Brewer and Mel Schacter plus three other musicians. Mark Farner wasn’t in the lineup, though. Mel, Don, and Mark need to mend fences, break bread, bury the hatchet, and stage a reunion tour. It would be one for the ages.
Ouvi a primeira vez aos 15 anos, em 89. Me apaixonei, nunca mais esqueci essa música. Não sei explicar, mas quando ouço agora, aos 50 anos, me bate uma melancolia...
Not,! Bad time to try, that blows compared to the studio version
I am a G.F.R. fan,j was 10,in 1969,my brother got me the double live album at Christmas❤
from Japan 55歳です バンドでドラムしてます ドン・ブリューワーさんのドラムって全盛期の頃と全く変わらずで さすがプロのアーティストって底力が凄いんだと改めて思う素晴らしい映像です
This is a better recording than Grand Funk Live, and that's saying a lot. I'm 68 and saw them live in Atlanta 1970. What a powerful concert.
